About

Hello, I'm Brandon

A passionate explorer, an eternal optimist, and a creative mind with a knack for research and logistics. But overly flattering descriptives aside, I’m really just an average guy who decided a long time ago that life was better living on my own terms. My terms happened to involve experiences, adventures and seeing as much of the world as possible, rather than the more traditional path of full time employment, financial stability and a sedentary way of life.

At eleven years old I got my first taste of international travel on a trip with my family. A week in Aruba. Immediately I was blown away by how different things were from the suburbs outside of NYC where I grew up. The landscapes, the buildings, the people, the smells and the food! All different, all new, all exciting.

This interest in travel was solidified and transformed into a true passion in 2005, when I went on my first backpacking trip to Europe. From then on my life revolved around travel. I started moving, and never really stopped.

How To Use The Site

The natural flow of going on a trip is this:

Get inspired > Do research > Plan + Book > Pack > Travel!

Looking to get Lost has all of that covered. While there are of course some Destination Guides, the goal of the site is to inspire and help you travel anywhere through practical tips and advice about researching, planning and exploring like a pro.

Feeling that itch to travel but not sure where the next destination should be? Head to Inspire for photos and travel stories to get those ideas flowing.

If you are after general travel advice, packing tips, how to plan a road trip or backpacking adventure, or how to find a great restaurant anywhere, head to Inform.

Have a specific place in mind? Soon enough I will have a Destination Guide page, but while the site is site is still new It is not yet complete.

For all other tips and tricks check out my Super Ultra Ultimate Premium Resource Guide. There you will find links to all the sites you will need to book and plan a trip, including my favorite blogs and travel resources.

  • The only thing I love more than travel, is eating.
  • I’m a photographer, but I hate having my picture taken.
  • I’m a sucker for good design.
  • I prefer foggy days over sunny days.
  • Snowstorms bring me peace.
  • I would eat Pad Thai every day if I could.
  • I used to be able to run a 4:25 mile. Now, I cannot.
  • I secretly wish I could live a simple life in the Italian countryside spending my days foraging for truffles with a pig and eating a lot of cheese.

What is Looking to Get Lost?

Looking to get Lost invokes the spirit of stepping outside of your comfort zone. Exploring with all of your senses.

Traveling to that new city you can’t find much info about. Eating that new food you’ve never heard of, simply because it smells good. Going to that random concert you were invited to by some friendly stranger you serendipitously sparked a conversation with at the beach, because he swears it will blow your mind. Getting in your car and just driving somewhere, anywhere, with no destination and no GPS. Trying something new that scares you, just because it looks really fun.

It’s about doing something different for the pure thrill and enjoyment that comes from trying something new. You may get a little lost. Things may not work out. And that’s ok, because that’s where you discover something about yourself and the world around you. That’s when exciting things can happen. Getting lost can be a beautiful thing. Embrace it.

Thoughts on Travel

Ever since I started traveling I have been a firm believer in the importance of seeing the world and trying new things. Personal development can only go so far if you do the same thing, with the same people, in the same place, your entire life. Seeing new places, living new experiences, eating new foods, meeting new people and feeling new feelings are essential parts of the human experience.

Once I saw how much the world had to offer, it was hard to ignore. Why would I want to vacation in the same place every year when there are infinite possibilities out there? Even if you go somewhere and don’t like it, you will learn lessons about the world, and yourself, that you would never have learned otherwise.

There can be equal, if not more value, in bad experiences. You also realize pretty quickly that perspective is everything. That there is always something good, even in bad situations. You just have to open your mind to the possibilities.
